Storm Forge Huge Game 3 Comeback to Gain A Big District Road Win

With all eyes on Cibola High School Thursday night, the Storm overcame a huge 14-2 deficit in game 3 to take charge of the match and win a thrilling 4 set District matchup 25-19, 27-29, 25-21, and 25-17. Coach Ainsworth challenged his team before the match to play with intensity and some passion against the number 3 team in Class 6A and for the exception of a part of set 2 and the beginning of set 3, they answered the call.
.
Set one was a back and forth affair until both teams reached 15 and that is when Cleveland stepped up the level of play via the passing game and out scored the Cougars 10-4 down the stretch. In set two, the Storm jumped out to a big lead 17-11, but made some costly errors and couldn't close out the match. The set two win by the Cougars gave them the momentum of the match and they definitely took advantage of that by jumping out to a 14-2 lead in set three. This is where the match took a 180 degree turn and the Storm played with the passion it's coach had requested in the pre-game speech. The Storm outscored the Cougars 23-7 to take set three and gain the all important momentum of the match as they closed out the Cougars 25-17 in the final set.
.
Wow was the expression of the night, between the high flying kills of the Cougars, to the impressively quick offense and sound passing game of the Storm. The Storm passed a 2.1 (3.0 Scale) and compiled 40 digs on the evening, while the offense generated 53 kills in the four sets.
.
The Storm moved to 3-0 in District play with the big win and are now 12-3 on the season. Next up, the Storm face Rio Rancho at home on Ocotber 14th. Both teams are tied at the top of the District standings after the first 3 games at 3-0. Please come out and support the Storm!!
